Zhong Zhiyue is an accomplished composer and musician specialising in both the Sheng and Guqin. At the age of 13, he started learning Sheng under the tutelage of Professor Xu Chaoming from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He has also studied Guqin performance under the guidance of Professor Dai Xiaolian. Due to outstanding achievements, Mr Zhong graduated one year ahead of schedule and in 2016, became the first master’s degree student majoring in Sheng performance at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He also learn composition from Huang Lei, Xu Jianqiang, Luo Weilun, etc.

Mr Zhong is the President of the Guqin Association of Singapore and the co-founder of He Yue Zhai Guqin Music and Arts Centre. He is currently Director of the Singapore Chinese Music Federation and lectures at Singapore Raffles Music College. He is also a committee member of the professional Sheng instrument section and Guqin instrument section of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society, and a member of the Shanghai Musicians Association and the Shanghai Guqin Research Association.

Wu Xiaodan was awarded a Chinese government scholarship to study music at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In 2018, she graduated with a master’s degree in Guqin performance under the guidance of renowned Guqin master Professor Dai Xiaolian.

Xiaodan once served as the Guqin teacher of the Songjiang Branch of Shanghai Qin Association and the Guqin teacher of Shanghai Foreign Language School. She is currently the Vice President of the Guqin Association of Singapore and a council member of the Shanghai Guqin Research Association.

Yao Wei began learning the guqin at a young age and has been playing the instrument for nearly a decade, under Dr Lu Xiaozi, Guqin Lecturer at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music; Associate Professor Zhong Zhiyue, Guqin and Sheng musician; and Dr Wu Xiaodan, Principal Lecturer in Guqin at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Singapore. She has also received guidance from renowned Guqin masters, including Professor Dai Xiaolian. In 2020, she obtained her Guqin Performance Diploma with distinction. She currently serves as a Council Member of the Guqin Association of Singapore and Senior Instructor at the He Yue Zhai Music and Arts Centre, Singapore.

As a performer, Yao Wei has received numerous awards at international guqin competitions, including the Singapore Grand Prize for three consecutive occasions. In 2024, she became the first guqin performer to advance to the semi-finals of the Grand Category (Performer Category) of the Singapore Chinese Music Competition. In 2025, she was awarded the Gold Award (Asia-Pacific Region) at the Magnolia International Music Festival.

As a guqin instructor, Yao Wei has also guided her students to outstanding achievements. Her students have won numerous awards at competitions including the Nanyang International Music Competition, Singapore International Guqin Competition, and Magnolia International Music Festival.

June Neo

A PhD holder in Derivatives, currently a senior lecturer in Banking and Finance with more than 20 years of teaching experience. Dr. June Neo learned Guqin under the tutelage of Associate Professor Zhong Zhiyue for several years. She is a director of the Guqin Association of Singapore and holds a Diploma in Guqin Performance from the Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University (CI-NTU). In 2021, she won the Bronze and Singapore Grand Silver Awards of the Non-professional-traditional category in the 2021 “HeYue Cup” Singapore International Guqin Invitational Competition.
