Classes

The Xiao (箫) is a Chinese vertical end-blown flute  It is generally made from bamboo and is a very ancient Chinese instrument developed by the Qiang people from Southwest China.

Most of the flutes we encounter today can only play one or two scales. Those that are able to play more than one scale would require the player to undergo years of training and strict practice. The Xiao’s uniqueness lies in its ability to play exotic scales like the Harmonic Minor, Harmonic Major, several Japanese scales as well as all the Chinese pentatonic scales.  This is also why many people have liken it as “the flute to rule them all”.

If you have always wanted to start a new musical hobby using a small and portable instrument, the Xiao would be the perfect instrument for you!

Xiao Flute Lessons

Our Xiao Flute Lessons courses are offered on a 1-1 basis. As the course curriculum is designed to cater to individuals’ learning needs, personal classes can be arranged at your convenience.

Students can expect to be proficient in the preliminary finger playing techniques in a step-by-step manner. They will learn how to work on regulating their breathing and learn how to shaping their lips to produce different sounds.

As this is a highly personalised session, our teacher would be happy to teach any pop or traditional Chinese music. For further enquires, please feel free to contact our Centre for more information.

Xiao Beginner Course – SGD$700 for 10 sessions, class duration is set at 30 mins.

Xiao Advanced Course – SGD$1000 for 10 classes, class duration is set at 45 mins.

• As the classes is catered to the student’s convenience, students must notify the Centre at least 24 hours in advance if they wish to cancel class.
• A session will be deducted for late cancellations/no shows without proper medical certificate.
